The following Code of Ethics have been developed by MCA Ottawa, for the guidance of the Mechanical Industry Contractors and Associate Members, to maintain the integrity of all aspects of the industry. We also recognize and honour the rules of practice and Code of Ethics of the following local associations: OCA, GCA, ECA and all other local associations that support the integrity of our industry.
The rules presented hereafter give precedence to the human values and to the moral code. Therefore, each Member must acknowledge their obligations towards:
1) The Society
The Member shall:
a) acknowledge the privileges granted to their profession to assure the security and the well being of society:
b) acknowledge that their customers trust them to protect their interest:
c) protect the public from all fraud, embezzlement and dishonest conduct. They must not in any way or under any circumstance practice false representation:
d) in the exercise of their professional functions, commit fully their personal responsibility. They must take into consideration the possible consequence of their work on the live, health and property of each person, which their achievements may concern. If their responsibility does not extend to certain work they estimate as dangerous, they shall consider it their duty to advise these facts to the responsible persons:
e) express their opinion on questions concerning the profession, either in public, either as a witness before a court
of justice, a commission or any other court, only if the latter is based on sufficient knowledge and an honest conviction:
f) always be aware of every economic industrial and technical development, an essential condition to advise their customers with competence and to serve them well:
g) establish in writing the work to be done, an essential condition to keep clear and straight relations with their customers.
2) The Profession
The Member shall:
a) participate in the development of their knowledge and their experience with their colleagues and actively take part in the Industry activities:
b) refrain from using improper or suspicious methods to solicit work:
c) not maliciously do any direct or indirect wrong to the professional reputation of another Member. However, if they consider that the latter is guilty of illegal, blameful, unjust or contrary to professional ethic act, they will submit the case to the attention of the MCA Ethics Committee.
d) strive to promote professional improvement and advancement of their paid employees:
e) not act in any disloyal manner in order to undermine, directly or indirectly, the existing rapport between a colleague and their client or their employer:
f) show dignity, humanness and comprehension towards their paid employees. He must scrupulously respect the working conditions provided for in the collective agreements or in the Labour Relations Act.
g) scrupulously respect their obligations towards the distributors, the suppliers and sub-Members.
3) Each Member
Tender fairly in regards to the quality of the materials needed and the extent of the work desired. They will avoid making imprecise submissions. A submission at a price allowing a reasonable profit is guaranteed satisfaction for all concerned including the client.
